Some of you older folks might remember this.. To this day, still my favorite game of all time. The story, characters and of course the score is absolutely phenomenal. |

I was a big FF fan back in they day, the intro to this game was fantastic, and the graphics blew me away (for the time), but the story, characters, and battle system pale in comparison to the other FF's (seven being my fav), the main character is some moody goth/emo guy, that all of a sudden decides he is in love and starts giving a shit, The bad guy is some witch who you don't hear about until 5 minutes before you beat the game, and the game's battles system depended heavily on summons, which all had great animations but they get old the 100th time you've seen them, and there was no way to fast forward though them. Almost all the FF games are great or atleast good, I am not saying 8 was a bad game it just isn't as good as the others. |

FFVII has to be the most overrated FF game in the series. |

Oh jeez. I agree with Nick.. VII was extremely overrated.. As for VIII, you actually meet Princess Edea at the end of the first disc (mind you, there are 4.) The Junction system itself was revolutionary for it's time and is only starting to appear in mainstream games now. The amount of battle customization you can do with the junction system (especially the ones involving summons) was outstanding. The game was purely story-driven. Unlike the VII or IX which was heavy-action and not so much story, this was the opposite. It utilized cut-scenes and lengthy dialogues which probably turned many people off. |

FF VII is what got alot of people into RPG's I would believe more so than any other RPG game and it deserves credit for that, it was also the first really good RPG on the PS1. I'm not objecting to the junction system that was fine, but how are you gona have this system without a fast forward feature on the summons themselves. I didn't mind the utilized cut scenes (thought they were aweome) or long dialogue (you should expect it with a FF game), but the main character decides to only start caring (about everything his girl, saving the world etc.) in the last 5 min and by this time I didn't care about the main character since he was such a moody bitch the entire game. |

IMO FFVII was more memorable to me than VIII, but to me it was never the play system but the story. While I do remember 7 more than 8, my all time favorite is still FFIII for the SNES. I do have to say though that on my first date with my wife, I saw FFVIII in her library of four games and knew I would marry her ^^ |

I didn't really care for VII at all (I agree that it's overrated), but I enjoyed VIII and IX. I liked the 'return to roots' of IX, with the clink-clanking warrior, the black and red mage and, surprisingly, the graphical styling of the game. The one FF game that sucked me in more than the rest is V. That was my first experience with a job system (never got into FF Tactics) and I loved it. VI was a close second to it with one of my favorite settings of any in the series. |

I wouldn't give FF7 that much credit. The glory days of the SNES were amazing for those of us that can remember it. With the average age of the gamer today I would say that's more often than not that we can. Games like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, 7th Saga, Earthbound, Lufia and the most popular (in my eyes) FF II & III were what really whet people's appetites for RPGs and showed that there was a solid US market for them. I'll agree that FF7 was one of the first really good RPG on the PS1. I would give the title of "The Best" to Persona, which people still ask to be re-released on modern consoles. I will admit that the series didn't pull people in like the FF series in the US but Persona is one hell of a quality game. Both it and FF7 were released the same year. |

Oh, I totally read this as the FFVII opening, woops. I was wondering why I didn't recognize any of the characters. Never played VIII though, so I cannot say anything. My favorites was definitely X and XI, if you count the MMO as a FF game. |

You know, playing every Final Fantasy games out almost, FFVIII was probably one of the ones I hated the most, honestly, the junction system was just terribly made, having to go around capturing magic from monsters just to never use it unless you wanted to hurt your character stats and the broken summon powering system and the fact that you had to earn your money after spending a certain amount of time in the game was just plain annoying. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those VII lovers, while I did like it, to me, Final Fantasy VI will be forever the best game in the series, probably one of the most underrated ones too, no one can beat the awesomeness that is Kefka. And as a side note, promoting poor play by NOT power leveling your characters in 8 was just annoying, by the time I got to the last boss in that game, I was already level 100 with full junction/summon pages with ultimate weapons and still had a problem beating Lucrecia, but when I restarted and got to the end at like...level70, it was a piece of cake and the whole outer space ragnarok space ship part and using it to go beat up Bahamut and then what's his face for a weapon...ugh Now, to go back to patiently waiting for Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Versus XIII |
