After talking things over with Sketchit and a couple of other members, I decided to change the layout of the forums. We all need to remember that we are not just an Age of Conan clan but a gaming community. Down the line we will support other MMO's and the site needs to reflect that. I would really appreciate if you take part in this poll and give me any input that you might have. Right now we have very specific sub-forums which might make other parts of the site look dead. We want to eliminate that and condense everything. What do you want to see? Thanks again, Tommy Edited by Ragana, May 17 2010, 11:02 AM.

I like the idea of an MMO centric community. Maybe branching out into other MMO's besides Conan in the future. That way we would have a viable gaming focus to bring us all together as a community of gamers. Rather than just the idea of a community. It would also not interfere with members ability to be in clans, as MMO guilds are usually treated differently to gaming clans and that way would not intefer with other gaming groups that potential members may already be committed to for FPS and RTS games. |

I like the idea of an MMO focused message board. You could have the game as the top directory and then PVP, PVE, and everything else as the sub directories. You could add new games to the forums if it is suggested by a few members or there is a poll or something like that. And if anyone wanted to talk about anything else just have a basic off topic or general discussion area. |

We should have a General MMO forum for MMO's that don't have a large following though otherwise the boards will be clogged up with inactive game forums. Only have games that have high number followings with their own forums. I think the in game guild must prove itself to be active to a certain extent before it gets its own forum. |

I'm pretty happy with the sites layout. It would be interesting to do a poll on what platforms and PC genres everyone is very active in to dictate our further development as a community. |

I think it would be a neater, more tightly knit community if we focused exclusively on PC gaming and snip off the game console branch; right now it's spread too thinly across far too many small interests. The overall result would be that you'd have a more gathered community with more specific mutual interests. The idea, obviously, is the gathering of people with a common hobby. Of course, the MMORPG team won't lose any exposure this way, either. No loss, in my opinion.

Well, game guilds don't really NEED a forum until they're established, so I can agree with Rufus. |

I checked MMO focused. But the more I thought about it, I think PC focused would be more towards my liking. I was with a group of people who played Quake 3 and our forums were based almost solely on that game. It worked great for us when we all played that, but as that game began to die, it was hard to "transfer" everyone to a new game. Some wanted SciFi based FPS, some wanted modern FPS and some wanted mmo's (and then there were different style MMO's ) We self destructed the community by limiting our membership to people who played Quake 3.I think if we limit the forums to just say MMO's or just a genre we run the risk of alienating others as we will eventually move to a new game. I know MMO encompasses a wide range of games...but I am not just an MMO gamer. When I signed up, I saw FFG as a game community and a Saga as a branch of that. I liked that idea and I knew that I could find someone to play games with no matter what I felt like playing. I know a lot of members here are from AoC right now... but limiting the forums to just MMO's seems a bit restrictive on how I saw FFG when I joined. I think a majority of us here prefer PC gaming and I believe FFG should be promoted as a PC gaming community and not just MMO game forum. This allows us to narrow down our focus without pinpointing a specific genre of games. -edit also I do think some of the sections could be trimmed down. If feels like the Treehouse section is a lot of useless forums for categorizing specific discussions that makes it look like we have a lot of conversation on those topics. I don't think that's necessary. Arcade could be trimmed to just "Consoles" Lastly... I think we need a "members" section. It look to me that all forums are publicly visible. my 2ยข Edited by UrbanZomB, May 18 2010, 09:19 AM.

You already know what I've suggested, but I'll post again. I think there are way too many sections currently. As an example - philosophy? Politics? These sections aren't needed, and a lot of them can be condensed to make the forum look more active. The Arcade -MMORPG -FPS -RTS -Other 4 sections, when there used to be 9 [counting the subforums] The Treehouse - Community Introductions - Pillow Talk - General community discussion. Aka, Offtopic - General Media - TVs, Movies, Music, ect - Artist's Corner - Showoff member artistic creations 4 sections, down from 9. The AoC guild section was done correctly. I feel like the above changes would help make the forum look more alive, but it will be easier to go about posting on the forums because of broader categories. There should be an option somewhere in the admin control for the forums to increase the number of threads a user can see in a section per page, that would also help make things look more active. |
