As you can tell by my name I love classic Doom games. I still play them to this day I don't plan to stop any time soon. Now there's no denying that Doom and its sequel Doom 2 are both groundbreaking classics but which one do you feel is the superior game? I've gotta say that as much as I love the original Doom it just barely loses to Doom 2. Doom 2 just has a lot more to offer. Bigger more complex levels, more enemies in each level, and new enemies to up the challenge. But that's my opinion. So what do you think? |

Doom 2 all the way. Bigger, better, badder, tough as hell. Doom 1 does leave a better first impression on someone though. Why don't we have a discussion on what the best source port for Doom is instead? |

I would say jDoom aka Doomsday is the best. I love having the ability to update Doom with the 3D models and really improved textures and it will do the same with Heretic and Hexen. |

I've got all of the original Doom crap, and would have to say Doom2 is the best. I can't get over not having the double-barrelled shotgun in Doom. My Doom folder also includes instructions on how to portforward on Dial-Up. ಠ_ಠ |

Of course, that dramatically reduces flexibility, since the effects and models aren't meant much for customizability, even though it is possible to make your own, it is too tedious for most people to attempt it. Outside of a few pretty effects, the multiplayer is coded terribly, and the engine isn't that much more advanced than the original. Now if you talk about something like Skulltag, you have the best multiplayer support available for Doom, support for 3d models, all the effects and flexibility of ZDoom and GZDoom, you have something truly amazing. |

I forget which port we had in my computer maintenance class. I only played it a few times, the guy next to me would play all the time. He'd ALWAYS have god mode on, it confused me a little since it made the game look damn near impossible without it, it's not impossible right? Heh, and another time another kid in the same class asked if my baphomet shirt had something to do with doom :p |

Doom on Nightmare mode is unlike any other game. Twice as many enemies than normal. Not only that, their projectiles move twice as fast, they fire twice as often, their shots do twice the damage, and on top of that, if you kill them, they respawn after about 30 seconds. You have not truly had an FPS experience till you play Doom on nightmare. |

Agreed. I've tried playing Doom on nightmare a few times and could barely make to about the fifth level then I died. Ultra-Violence is the most I can handle. |

Doom 1 is the originator but Doom 2 set a standard. Its sort of like how nowadays everyone wants to compare mmos to WoW (except doom is amazing and WoW is for kids not done with puberty yet). Doom 2 was king back in the day. That is until Quake came out and set a new standard. Oh the many hours I spent as a kid playing doom 1 and 2 coop over a lan with friends. Then when quake came out I think thats when I signed my soul away to video games forever. Good times lol. |
