I am sure most of you have heard of the next-generation Intel Core 2 family: The i7. It is also known as Socket B or LGA 1366 although the ladder is a bit misleading, but nevertheless conveys the most powerful chip on earth so far.

The question is, would you want to buy it?

The top model for COMMERCIAL and common use is about 1,200 ish. It is a quad core with about 3.12 Ghz frequency with 6 mb L2 Cache and if i remembered correctly, a 4.1 GT/s

What do you think.

And then you'll have to upgrade to DDR 3 :) What do you think of that?

I'd get it, and make some others simmer with rage, doing nothing but play DOS games on it. Aw yeah.
It is a mystery...

For the price..not even close to worth it, 600 for the low line..with an unlocked multiplier out of box...nope..just not worth it. Ive got phenom 9600 BE over clocked just over 3.1 with it idling at about 43c and under 100% never above 55...and for amd..thats pretty impressive imo :-P. With all the new hardware comming out in the last year...its crazy how we go from...9800's to 280's from 3870's to 4890's ...its just coming to fast for a $1000 processor...

Core 2 and Core i7 are two different architectures. The Core 2 architecture is based off of the core architecture and the Core i7 is based off the nehalem architecture. I don't feel like getting into the nitty gritty details, but it isn't a Core 2 i7. On top of that, the original $1000 chip was the Core i7 965, a 3.2 GHz (not 3.12), 8mb L2 cache (not 6), 6.4 GT/s (not 4.1) processor. The only reason it cost/costs so much is because it has an unlocked multiplier. Glad you didn't mention anything about the i7 920 or i7 940.
