Need For Speed Under Cover
Welcome to my first game review blog.
I have decided due to the fact that I play so many games, and usually buy all the latest ones before many people I know. Then I am asked about them and what their like.
These blogs will help you guys to get a better understanding of the games I play, and also give you a preview into my opinion of the game. This is all my opinion and not taken from any other sources. So here goes-
Firstly I want to say that you should not listen to or believe any of the reviews done on this game. Pretty much 80% of all reviews Ive read said that this game was crap. Of course I didn't care. At the time I was after an arcade style racing game with free roam, street cars that you can mod, good music tracks and G25 racing wheel support (I just got one recently and they are AWESOME!).
So I figured Id just grab a copy. Even the guy that i bought it off at the local computer store called DBC Computers recommended against me getting it, and suggested i get brothers in arms: Hells High way instead. But I persisted and bought myself a copy.
I wasn't really looking forward to playing it due to all of the reviews it had received that were negative, so i left it for about a day or so before i even thought of installing it.
When i finally did install it and loaded it up for the first time, I was greeted with a live action intro movie that explained the story line of the game, and your characters motivation. Basically your an undercover cop who is sent in to take the position as a wheel man for a criminal organization. For a game the acting in the cut scene was actually quite good. It really drew me in. Straight after it plunges you right into the middle of a high speed police chase, because you are undercover as a street racer your police brothers will still attempt to violently arrest you using any means necessary.
After that the game introduces you to all the different aspects of both free roaming, how to mod your car, how to find races etc.
Once of the coolest things about this game is pink slip races. You can race against others the prize being your opponents car. This adds a tantalizing extra into the mix, as you can customize the pink slip car and there is also the added bonus of being able to win unique car models that are not available for purchase.
I have yet to try out multi player, but cant wait to do so. It supports up to 8 players online, and I believe it also has lan support.
To sum up, its a pleasantly surprising game with a gripping story line. Not as much customization on the cars as the other ones, but there are more cars, which helps balance the game out. The controls are also the most realistic of the Need for speed series. (Force feedback support is very nicely done).
If i was to rate this id give it a 7/10

I was always hesitant about buying racing games on the PC. I don't own anything besides a mouse/keyboard so I imagine that the controls are extremely tough to master.
